1. Age of Conan is an MMORPG I tried for a while. The opening of the game is good, but the remainder seems rather unfinished at present. The setting is the Hyborian Era from Robert E. Howard's Conan stories.

2. Emile Nelligan is a French Canadian Symbolist poet, one of the best poets the North American continent has ever produced. But he went incurably insane at the age of 20.

3. eusthenopteron is a crossopterygian fish, one of the ancestors of all land dwelling vertebrate life. And I just like the sound of the name.

4. What exactly is an ihcoyc? I know it's your LJ name but is it something else besides?

I have been using the handle IHCOYC since around 1984. There was a Commodore 64 BBS back then that ran homebrewed software that displayed data in ALL CAPS. When choosing a handle to use there, I was momentarily moved to call myself IHCOYC (that is, IHΣOYΣ, with a Byzantine lunate sigma) to see if anyone got the joke.

So, it's Greek for "Jesus."

5. lautréamont - Isidore Ducasse, Comte de Lautréamont, was a French writer of Uruguayan descent. He wrote Les Chants de Maldoror, a long novella or prose poem full of hallucinatory images.

6. peplum - Peplum is the European name for "sword and sandal" movies. It comes from Greek πεπλον, which is what you get when you wrap a sheet around your shoulder (not a "toga"). As an easy to make ancient garment, it was favored by the costume designers of low budget Italian movies from the 1960s, the kind that feature bodybuilder leads in vaguely mythological, historical, or gladiatorial adventures.

7. Oddments - are odd bits of anything; random utensils; kadigans.
