Why comics art sucks today, and how to fix it

Heroic and fantasy art hasn't been all that good for around twenty years now, though it is a bit better now than it was in the mid-1990s. But what's generally gone wrong with it is that most of the artists learn to draw by copying art out of other comic books. If they spent half an hour absorbing the content of this page, they'd be much better.

Comments

Somewhere in the late 80s, comic book art started emulating the fashion industry, and started becoming a chase to emulate the flavor of the season. Granted, the seasons were several years long, but still. I think that the lack of originality with the art did as much to nearly kill the comic book industry in the 90s as did the over-publication, inconsistent pricing schemes and stupid cross-overs and mega-story-archs.
