He is absolutely right.... but...

I know they're trying to reclaim the word, but there's just something that bothers us about a perfectly legitimate and reasonable disposition bearing a label like that in the first place. Every time someone says they're "geeking out" on Spinoza or Shakespeare, or Rachel Maddow shows off cute tech or gives us cool science facts and calls it "a moment of geek", it's like ... Part of the problem is we can't stop thinking about the song, and that puts us off the whole idea.

Andy says it's because using that word indicates that a person still thinks there's something wrong with things like being interested in science, or knowing a lot of facts about anything. Most of us say things like "techie" instead. Are we missing something?
