A serpent of good omen

So, friend Cat does not put in his usual appearance at breakfast. We wonder if he is feeling poorly. He is supposed to be an indoor only cat, but his curiosity about the outside is not always equal to his courage. We check in the house, in all his usual cubbies and then some, and do not see him. Somehow he has gotten out of the house.

I go out looking for him. I do not find him at first. I do, however, see a large black king snake. King snakes are always of good omen. They feed mostly on mice and other such small deer, which is why it's luck to see one, and you do not molest them.

I go out again. I look in the same place, and poke around the neighbor's window well. At this point I am not thinking primarily of the cat, but rather wanted to check for toads; if there were any toads there I would move them to somewhere farther from where I saw the king snake.

What I found there: the cat. Cat gets lifted out of there by the scruff of his neck and taken back into the house, apparently none the worse for his adventure.

Thanks, black king snake.

M30\/\/!

It's been 104 out here for the last two days and the cats have been spending most of their time outdoors, especially mei mei, who does Not want to come inside, just basking in the sun and baking her brains.
